Drapery Designer Linda Tully
Linda has a passion for fabricating and designing window treatments. She has been serving interior designers and home owners for over 20 years. From modern to traditional she can help suggest options to personalize any type of treatment. Banding, buttons, flanges, welt, trim, nail heads, contrast fabric, etc. can add just the right touch to a treatment. Linda sketches most designs to scale to insure proper scale and proportion according to window size and ceiling height. Many potential mistakes can be avoided by seeing the design on graph paper with the floor and ceiling lines clearly marked. For example the sketch would indicate where a rod should be mounted between the top of the window and the ceiling which determines the drapery length. Top treatments are Linda’s specialty. Shaped cornices and lambrequins, swags and cascades, box pleated valances with custom shaped bottoms are all her favorite types of specialty valances to design and create.

Measuring and Templates
There are many factors to consider when designing window treatments. Many important decisions cannot be made without all the information gathered while measuring the window. Besides getting the width and length of the window you would also need to know the amount of wall space available above, below, left and right. The inside of the window has to be even more carefully measured and in several places when shades are requested to be mounted inside the frame. We offer measurement services to insure that all pertinent information is collected for the project. We also make notes about other architectural details that may affect the design or come up during the design phase. Some treatments or products require custom made templates in order for a proper fit. We also offer templating services for such cases.
Sketching
A sketch of the proposed window treatment that is drafted to scale can help the client visualize how the new drapery panels or valances will look on their windows. Not only will they see the overall shape and scale but you can also point out special details like banding, arched rods, nail heads, tieback location, etc. The sketch will help communicate all your ideas with your client and can be a way to edit and document any changes made to the design during the presentation. Many expensive mistakes can be avoided by sketching the custom designed treatments to scale before ordering the fabric, hardware, trim and fabrication. The sketch is a valuable blueprint for the workroom while fabricating the treatments and building any cornice frames. It can also be used on installation day to help communicate how the treatment should be mounted and may avoid extra holes in the walls. We offer sketching services along with measuring and drapery design consultations.
Sourcing Materials
Besides fabric there are many other products that make up a window treatment. Drapery lining is an important part of the function of a drapery. Linings come in many different colors, thicknesses, materials, transparencies, etc. There are also different thicknesses of interlinings that can be added to a drapery for extra fullness and insulation. Hardware can be the most overwhelming part of a treatment to specify and order correctly. There are as many options for function as there are for design style. Knowing the difference between a pinch pleat traverse rod and an 80% Ripplefold track can be confusing and expensive if ordered incorrectly. Fabric and trim are the most eye catching part of a treatment which is why choosing just the right bold print or subtle pattern in the perfect color is so important. We enjoy designing draperies and window treatments and consider all the parts and pieces while envisioning the final product. We take into consideration the needs and desires the clients have as well as the budget, which are all determined in the initial consultation phase of the project. Sourcing and ordering all necessary materials is part of the drapery design consultation we offer.
